Keep the wiring between the Fan and the Filter as short as possible, maybe even enclose them is a metal screen (Like the braid on a Coax cable), and make sure that braid is grounded. ![]() IF there are, you can always remove the filter. Mount this as close to the fan as you can.(shortest leads pissoble between the Fan and the filter. This will be a small Metal box, with 2 input, two output, and a way to ground the Box (maybe a ground lug or lead). What I would do ( very much doubt if you can get a Honda Dealer to do), is to fit a decent filter. either by a simple Resistive means, or many with a more sophisticated DC Motor Control Module, which would DEFIANTLY be a very likely cause of the Interference.Įither way, the 1st thing to do is to check if there is a Electrical Filter at the fan, or maybe just a simple Capacitor across the leads going to the fan. I have not checked how the Speed is actually controlled. If so, these are probably Arcing, causing the AM interference, and some cars may have Electrically Nosier fans than others. If you listen to the Interference, you will hear that it increases and decreases with Fan speed. (Which was my 1st guess when reading your post) The Interference is coming from the A/C FAN !! (3) I can hear the Interference exactly like you can on a portable AM radio, if sitting in the front of the car. (2) You have the issue because your AM Radio tuner is in the Head Unit, and the AM Antenna plugs into the Head unit. (1) I do not have the issue of the Noise on my AM Radio in the Si, because the AM radio tuner ad it's antenna is mounted towards the back of the car, up near the Shark Fin. thanks to all your initial testing, so thanks to that, it only took me about 10 minutes to pinpoint the cause Warranty should NOT come into this, (as it is easily reversible) but be aware of your Warranty conditions, and act accordingly. If you are not sure of what you are doing, get someone else to help you. DISCLOSURE: Anything I recommend doing in this Post, you do at your own risk. ![]() Thanks for your help, I will see about adding a few more videos about those new discoveries.Ĭlick to expand. I do listen to AM Radio a lot, so it is madenning, and I do find it totally unacceptable. I blame American Honda, I'm just tired of being stuck in the middle. I don't blame the dealership at this point, if Honda doesn't flag this as an issue, I don't expect their team to be able to triage and fix this, and they wouldn't get paid by Honda anyway since it is not relatable to a TSB or warranty issue. Plus, if I damaged something in the process, there goes my warranty. Yes, if I wanted to rip my dash apart I could probably find the offending module, shield it, put ferrites on the harnesses, and isolate it enough to be unnoticeable, but that should be something HONDA does on a new car, not something I have to do. I also know about grounding and shielding and such, although I don't claim to be any kind of expert on it. I am an extra class amateur radio operator, for whatever that is worth, so that is why I know at least something about tracing the interference.
